Over the past month or so I have been testing out a few eye products from Annabelle, an awesome Canadian brand whose lip crayons I featured earlier (see review here). The two products I’m sharing today are classic staples, Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara* and Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Jet Black*.
Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara very obviously promises MEGA VOLUME on its packaging, but did it deliver? Honestly, for me, not really. This is an okay mascara, it’s very black and coats my lashes well, but it seems pretty standard to me. There’s nothing super special about it that makes my lashes look so incredibly I’ll have to rush out and repurchase it, but I’m happy to use it up until it dries out. Which will be awhile…
Because I also the Annabelle Le Big Show a bit too wet. It gets a lot of product on the brush, and I have to be careful I don’t have too much on when I apply it because in combination with the wet formula it’s easy to get it on places besides my lashes. Like my eyelids.
I also find it is easy for it to start to look clumpy, although you can judge for yourself based on the photos I’ve included in this post. Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara definitely doesn’t make my lashes spidery or do anything super horrible to them, but it’s not a magical experience either.
I actually really like the brush that comes with the Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara, it’s got short, nylon bristles and it’s easy to coat my lashes using it, although like I said, you have to make sure not to have too much product on it first. I’m actually quite curious how this mascara will perform once it has dried out some more, and maybe I will like it a bit better then.
In you compare the differences between my lashes, I think its obvious that although the Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara both thickens and lengthens, there isn’t anything MEGA about it. If anything, it does a slightly better job adding length than volume, which is great but not what it advertises. Still, like I said it’s a decent mascara and it definitely doesn’t smudge on me all day when I’m wearing it, which makes it perfect for a more natural look– it’s just not something I’m shouting from rooftops about.
I’ve decided to combine two useful products almost every makeup bag needs into one post, and the second one I have to share is Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Jet Black. I actually really wear much eyeliner these days– although at one point it was basically the only makeup I wore so I guess I am kinda an expert in covering your entire eyelid in heavy black eye makeup… we all had years like that, right?
Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Jet Black is pretty cool because it’s not only retractable, obviously, which means it’s less of a hassle and less wasted product, but it also comes with a sharpener built in which is really useful if you wanted it to have a finer point. It applies pretty smoothly and gives an extremely opaque black, however while it is not the creamiest eyeliner I have ever tried, I do feel like that helps with its ability to set and not smudge so I am quite happy with it.
Wearing Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Jet Black on my eyelid, it did not smudge or move. However when I used it on my waterline like in this photo, I didn’t find that it smudged but a lot of it disappeared throughout the evening so I don’t recommend it for use there. In the eye look below, I’m wearing both products from this review.
Overall, the Annabelle Le Big Show Mascara does add some volume and length to my lashes, but I find the product a bit too wet and that it clumps. I had far more success with the Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Jet Black, which I think is a pretty good eyeliner at a budget-friendly price and may even convince me to wear a little more eyeliner again.
Have you tried any Annabelle products? Do you have a favourite mascara or eyeliner that you use?
