Are you a fan of Revlon Lip Butters? No, not a rhetorical question, although maybe it should be! They are cult favourites and I have personally finished my own tube of Pink Truffle. The brand new launch from Revlon’s sister brand Almay are the Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks, available in four colours for Light, Light-Medium, and Medium skin tones. Of course, it’s lipstick and there’s no reason you can’t wear all the shades. I was sent all four of the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium*, which includes Berry, Pink, Nude and Red.
In comparison to the Revlon Lip Butters, I think that these are balmier in texture and, in general, have a sheerer colour payoff. For me, this actually means I prefer the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks, because I don’t need a mirror to apply any of them, and they feel really nice on the lips! The first shade I’ve shared is the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium Berry (50), which does have some shimmer in it, although not all the shades do. Even the ones that have shimmer have the same comfortable balm-like feeling though, I don’t feel anything gritty when wearing them.
Although I said these are sheerer than the Lip Butters, they definitely still have pigment to them, but it’s a great choice for anyone who finds regular lipstick uncomfortable to wear because they feel so nice on the lips. The Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium Pink (60) is my least favourite of the four when applied on me, it’s a pretty bright shade with no shimmer. The packaging on these is basically like the Lip Butters, if the lid was transparent and the bullet matched the shade. I think they look really nice, and are easy to tell apart. Plus, the bullet goes all the down so you don’t get any balm on the inside of the clear tube. They are also sturdy enough for my bag.
The Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium Nude (70) actually reminds me a lot of Pink Truffle, although I don’t have one anymore to compare. It’s a nude brown-ish shade with no shimmer, that’s sheer enough to let some of the natural pink of your lips come through, which is what makes it really flattering. As you would expect with a brand targeting sensitive skin, there’s no fragrance or taste to the lipsticks, which I do appreciate.
The final shade was a surprise hit for me, and that’s the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium Red (80). I am pretty scared of red lipsticks but this one is surprisingly wearable and I love how it looks. It has some very find shimmer to it, that really just adds some dimension when applied. I think this is a fantastic gate-way red, although it’s not a gateway I’ve comfortable gone through yet, I will definitely continue to reach for this shade!
Honestly, there’s nothing negative for me to say about the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks in Light-Medium! They have a nice sheen to them, a comfortable balmy texture that feels great even on my dry lips, and are available in a variety of wearable shades. The only issue I have is there are 8 more available, and I think I need them all…
Have you seen the Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipsticks yet? I definitely recommend trying them out when you do!
