After a weekend so hot I’m pretty sure my body melted and I’m currently typing this as a puddle, I thought it would be a good time to share my 6 Makeup Tips to Beat the Heat! I mean, if you have oily skin you’ll probably want to do these year-round, but they are definitely most important during the hot weather.
I seem to have a wedding to attend every summer, and this year I’m heading home in August for my uncle’s wedding which will be entirely outdoors by a lake. My very favourite things about summer are getting to see my family and spending some time by the water, so this wedding will be an awesome chance to do both! That said, I know it’s going to be humid and hot so I will definitely be putting these tips to use. 1. Prime Everything
I mean, I actually only use primer on my face and eyelids, but if you can think of other places to prime, go ahead. I love the Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer Base because it really gives a smooth even surface, and the added benefit of SPF20 is pretty nice as well. For the eyes, my new love is the Maybelline Master Prime Long-Lasting Eyeshadow Base, which helps neutralize my eyelids and also ensures that whatever I put on top of it doesn’t fade or crease. Together, these primers are perfect for keeping makeup from melting off my face.
2. Pick Longwearing Products
This might seem a bit obvious, but there are definitely some makeup products that are more longwearing than others. I really love the L’Oreal Infallible lineup for makeup that lasts all day. The L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation gives my skin a flawless look even if my sunscreen breaks me out a little and is perfect for any wedding photos–I know there are going to be plenty of those! For a simple eye look with lots of dimension, I love the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Tender Caramel. Honestly, if you are looking for makeup that lasts even in the heat, I recommend checking out this line from L’Oreal.
3. Layer Cream and Powder Products
When it’s really hot cream products on their own might not be your friend, but layering a cream and powder product together? Perfection. I love the luminous look of the L’Oreal Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Pink Lift, but to make sure it lasts in heat I apply Clinique Cheek Pop in Rosy Pop on top to set it in place. You can use a transparent setting powder instead of a powder blush if you don’t want to impact the look of your cream blush–and that goes for the rest of your face too, apply a powder on top of your liquid foundation to keep it flawless in the heat.
4. Choose Waterproof Options
I mean, anything waterproof is going to be more immune to the heat and unfortunate sweat that comes along with it, but the item I find the most useful to have in waterproof? Mascara. I really don’t want my mascara running down my cheeks, so on those hot days I’ll be reaching for my Lise Watier Dramatique Mascara in Weatherproof. Also, a waterproof mascara is crucial for any wedding, because I just know there are going to be tears involved.
5. Know When It’s Better To Reapply
There are some products where it’s just easier to freshen up when you’re going to be dealing with hot weather. For me, lips is definitely one of those. In the summertime I forgo the matte lip and reach for an easy maintenance tinted lip balm like the L’Oreal Pop Balm in Bold Blush. It’s comfortable, and when it wears off while I’m sipping champagne, I’m won’t be left with that dreaded “lipstick ring” around my lips.
6. Finish With A Setting Spray Like L’Oreal’s Infallible Pro-Spray & Set
Of course, the final step to keeping your makeup flawless in the heat is to use a setting spray. The L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set is the first drugstore setting spray I’ve tried out, and I’m impressed. It really does lock your makeup in place and keeps everything look good, even when the rest of me has melted, there’s still a perfect makeup-shaped puddle left on the floor thanks to this spray.
If you’re looking to pick up the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set you can find it at most drugstores, including Lawton’s in Atlantic Canada. It’s in the affordable makeup aisle under the L’Oreal Paris sign, right next to the matching foundation. Of course, if both of them happen to fall into your cart together…well you wouldn’t want either one to be lonely.
In the above look I’m wearing all the products featured in this post. This is definitely the kind of makeup look I’d wear to attend a wedding, and I just love the end result! It’s flawless skin, a luminous cheek, a bright eye and a shiny lip. You can’t see the setting spray, but you can still see my makeup despite it being 30 C out, so that just means it’s doing its job.
Whether you’re looking for an easy day-to-day look or attending a Summer wedding like I am, these 6 Makeup Tips to Beat the Heat will help keep your makeup looking flawless all day! I will definitely be packing my L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set when I head home in August for my uncle’s wedding and I’ll be sure to share it with my mom and sister too.
