Honestly, I tell people to please don’t buy me any makeup because–as you might have guessed from this blog–I already have too much. That’s not to say I never pick anything new up (even if that should be the case) but I try to save those moments of weakness. That said, I LOVE buying makeup for other people, because it’s so much fun to share. If you have a new makeup lover in your life to buy for, I’ve rounded up 3 great gifts for this holiday season.
First up is the Avon Makeup Design Palette*, which contains 21 eyeshadows, 6 lip glosses, 3 blushes, and a bronzer all in a palette that folds up to be the size of paperback book. Not only is there a great range of colours, but you also get makeup for the rest of your face, and a large mirror, making it perfect for travel. The plastic covers help prevent shadows from getting into the glosses, but I still prefer to keep lip products separate since if the blushes kick up powder it will end up with the gloss.
The Avon Makeup Design Palette also has a little “Design Your Look” booklet at the bottom, but it only has 2 looks in it (Day and Night). I love the idea of having tutorials for somebody who is new to makeup, but I wish there were more, or that it came with the palette rather than being a permanent part. Some brow powders or a highlighter would be a great option for that space, making the palette truly versatile. Still, it’s a very convenient package and a great gift for a new makeup lover.
If the person you’re buying has really, truly, fallen in love with makeup and you’re looking to go all out, what you need is the Sephora Color Wonderland* Neutral & Vivid Eyeshadow Palette*. This seriously massive palette includes 78 shadows–one side is neutrals, one side is vivids. The palette is a bit taller than a magazine, but about the thickness of a hardcover book, and is held closed with an elastic band. I really love how the shadows are sized based on how often you’ll probably use them and include a very large creamy peachy “Base” on one side and a very sparkly “Highlighter” on the other.
In addition to the shadows, there are also two pencil liners in the Sephora Color Wonderland* Neutral & Vivid Eyeshadow Palette, a black and a shimmery gunmetal shade. Although the pencils have to be sharpened, they have a great pigmented, creamy formula. To top it all off, there’s a very soft double-sided brush. I wish one end was a blending brush, but both side are the same all-over shadow brush.
In terms of the shadows in the Sephora Color Wonderland* Neutral & Vivid Eyeshadow Palette, the shimmery shades I tried were all really pigmented and creamy, although the colourful mattes can be a little chalky. However, it’s overall a really comprehensive, gorgeous range of shades that would give a makeup lover everything they could wish for in a palette. I mean, really, every possible shade…
Of course, with all these beautiful shadows, your makeup-loving friend (or self…) is going to need some brushes to apply them all, and what’s more festive than the mark. Clutch Situation 5-Piece Pro Brush Set*?
This brush set comes in a sparkly case covered in black and gold sequins that you could definitely use as a clutch once you removed them. The brushes themselves have a really pretty metallic donut design on the handles, gold ferrels, and soft black bristles. Inside the mark. Clutch Situation 5-Piece Pro Brush Set there’s a blush brush, contour brush, all over shadow brush, blending brush, and a liner brush. It’s a really great set for travel, or for somebody’s first five brushes. The brushes are all really soft and fairly fluffy, which makes them great for making sure you don’t get too heavy handed with makeup.
Whether you’re looking to buy a gift for a new makeup lover–or you are the new makeup lover (or longtime makeup lover!)–hopefully there’s been something useful in this little gift guide. What would you get somebody who recently fell in love with makeup?
